DEARBORN, Mich. -- The 12th Congressional District Democratic Party (CDDP) passed a resolution at it's recent general membership meeting supporting an independent investigation into Russia's influence on the Trump administration and the U.S. elections.

The Democrats, in particular, voiced support for Congresswoman Debbie Dingell's efforts to establish a bipartisan independent commission to pursue the investigation and ensure our democracy is safe from outside intervention.

"We must ensure this investigation moves forward in an unbiased manner, unabated by anyone, which is why the need for a truly independent investigation and a special prosecutor is more urgent than ever," said Dingell in a recent statement. "The American people deserve to have a clear understanding of Russia’s interference in our democracy and they deserve to have faith that their leaders will protect our democratic institutions and the rule of law."

Steve Rzeppa, the 12th CDDP chairman, said that he believes many constituents of both parties in the 12th congressional district are concerned about Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

"Unlike Congresswoman Debbie Dingell, many Washington politicians don't seem to understand how important this issue is to everyday citizens," said Rzeppa. "We wanted to show that we have Debbie's back and support her call for a fair investigation to take place and for people to be able to trust the decisions of the prosecutors and investigators involved."
